16 Jul 2025 Nestlé bets big on super-premium infant formula with NAN Sinergity
In a bold move to capture a greater share of the fast-growing premium infant nutrition market, Nestlé has introduced NAN Sinergity, a novel formula that sets a new benchmark for science-backed baby nutrition.
What makes this product revolutionary is its exclusive combination of six human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) and the probiotic strain Bifidobacterium infantis LMG11588 — a pairing that no other formula currently offers, and a claim validated by Mintel.
This innovation could be a major driver for Nestlé’s growth in the premium and super-premium formula segments, particularly as parents increasingly seek products that closely mimic the health benefits of breastmilk.
The NAN Sinergity formula combines:
- Six age-specific HMOs – naturally occurring complex carbohydrates in breastmilk that promote the growth of healthy gut bacteria.
- B. infantis LMG11588 – a probiotic strain known for its ability to break down HMOs and produce beneficial metabolites that support infant health.
The synergy between these two components enhances the infant gut microbiome, helping to build a strong immune system and digestive health early in life.
Nestlé highlights that this pairing leads to the dominance of beneficial gut flora, aiding in everything from nutrient absorption to immune regulation. Because breastmilk changes throughout the lactation period, Sinergity features a dynamic blend of HMOs designed to reflect those natural shifts, offering what Nestlé calls an “age-adapted” nutritional approach.
Clinically supported benefits
According to Nestlé, this advanced formulation delivers six clinically backed health benefits:
- Stronger immunity
- Cognitive development
- Digestive support
- Muscle development
- Bone health
- Overall physical growth

Nestlé’s strategy: Tapping into a growing market
While Nestlé remains a global leader in the infant formula sector — alongside competitors like Danone, Abbott, and Reckitt — it has seen uneven performance across its portfolio. Brands like Gerber and Nido have faced headwinds, even as the NAN brand gains traction.
By focusing on super-premium innovations like Sinergity, Nestlé is positioning itself to benefit from the projected growth in specialty formulas.
Industry forecasts from Research and Markets have estimated that the global infant formula market will expand from $60-billion in 2023 to $85-billion by 2029, driven in part by demand for premium, science-driven products.
Global expansion
Nestlé first launched Sinergity in Hong Kong, then expanded into Europe, and is now rolling it out across Latin America, the Middle East, and parts of Asia.
“Nestlé is at the forefront of providing the most advanced, science-based solutions to support nutrition,” said Laurent Alsteens, Global Head of Infant and Early Childhood Nutrition at Nestlé.
“Our products containing HMOs are available in over 50 countries. With parents seeking the best for their little ones, we continue to invest in products with proven benefits, creating an opportunity for growth of trusted brands in this area.”
Interestingly, Sinergity is not always marketed under the NAN brand. To align with local brand equity and consumer trust, Nestlé has opted for a multi-brand rollout strategy:
- Germany: Sold under BEBA
- UK and Ireland: Branded as SMA
- France: Released under Guigoz
This approach allows Nestlé to leverage existing regional trust while introducing a product that represents the cutting edge of infant nutrition science.
A new era for infant formula
NAN Sinergity isn’t just another premium formula — it represents a paradigm shift in how infant nutrition is approached. By replicating key functions of breastmilk and supporting the gut microbiome through targeted science, Nestlé is aiming to set a new standard for what baby formula can offer.
As consumer demand for high-performance nutrition continues to rise, Sinergity could play a critical role in shaping the future of infant care — while strengthening Nestlé’s leadership in the global nutrition space.
