Woolworths Boxed Premium Wine

Woolies takes the papsak to new heights!

Woolworths has just launched a range of premium local wines – in boxes. [Bravo Woolies! This is a development long overdue, and perfect for the times. Ed]

If you’re thinking that this is just plain old papsak, think again. The boxes are boldly branded with the respective estates; the contents exactly the same as in regular branded bottles.

Woolworths is keen to rebound after a crushing alcohol ban of 14 weeks left its wine suppliers floundering, reports News24.com.

In the wake of lockdown, the wine team has come up with an ingenious solution: premium large-format wine that you’ll actually want to drink – offering the value South African shoppers are looking for now more than ever.

“The Covid-19 pandemic and associated lockdowns have not only changed the way we view hygiene, personal space and health, but it’s also affected the way in which we shop and even think about shopping,” says the retailer.

“A few years ago, many of us would have scoffed at the idea weighing up value and price so precisely, but the world is a very different place now.

“To ensure customers get the very best quality, value (and volume!) in times that they need it most, Woolies has just released an impressive range of four premium 2-litre boxed wines, which showcase exclusive collaborations with some leading South African wine brands.

“Yes – we said boxed wines and yes, we also said premium! So, it’s time to change your perception of paspsak because this range is really something special.

“This new boxed wine range provides buyers with an affordable option as the price is equivalent to buying two bottles, so effectively you get 500ml for free!”

The wines on offer

A long standing crowd favourite, Pierre Jourdan Tranquille Blush: a delicate and fresh salmon pink blush with fragrant aromas of lively strawberry and raspberry with a hint of citrus fruits. Deliciously versatile and elegant, this wine is the epitome of elegance.

A popular choice for Sauvignon Blanc drinkers, Diemersal Sauvignon Blanc: an unwooded and crisp fresh wine that showcases the true diversity of Durbanville’s terrior. Jam-packed with zesty lime flavours and a mouth-watering finish, this wine is a perfect choice for summer.

One of South Africa’s most famous Pinotages, Beyerskloof Pinotage: a quality Pinotage which is lightly hooded, fruit driven and has been made with old bush grapes. It’s teeming with juicy black berry flavours and offers a well-balanced finish. It is a great accompaniment to a red meat dish and well as anything spicy.

A go-to for Chenin lovers, Kleine Zalze Chenin Blanc: the upfront flavours of this delightfully approachable wine are tropical. Think ripe pineapple and guava, beautifully complemented by hints of citrus which result in a crisp, lingering taste that matches well with seafood, pork or chicken.

“This exciting range is exclusive to Woolworths, so you won’t be finding it anywhere else. With a starting price of R124.99, customers effectively receive 500ml for free from each box, which is quite a deal indeed!” ends the Woolworths’ press release.
