SOUTH Africa’s first digital print on laminated tubes, elaborate and striking decoration techniques for glass bottles, the ultimate convenience for on-the-go coffee cups, innovative carton designs to protect cakes on the move, packaging that’s helping to shift lower-income consumers from powdered to liquid detergents, gold-spangled gift tubes for sparkling wines, portable packs that keep beer colder for longer – all these concepts took gold medals in this year’s Gold Pack Awards.
Here are the three Beverage-Alcoholic Category Medal Winners:
Gold Medal Smirnoff Double Black Entrant: Glass Decorations Converter: Glass Decorations Brand Owner: Brandhouse Citation: This striking bottle decoration uses a ‘night sky blue’ combined with a newly developed glitter blue, matt metallic silver and a high gloss silver foil finish. This technically excellent decoration uses completely organic media applied to the glass resulting in a sustainable packaging solution. |
Silver Medal Amarula Gold Entrant: Glass Decorations Converter: Glass Decorations Brand Owner: Distell Citation: This bottle decoration was achieved with three different processes creating a clear ‘WOW’ factor. Gold foiling directly on to glass is a world first. |
Bronze Medal Jack Black Beer Range Entrant: Glass Decorations Converter: Glass Decorations Brand Owner: Jack Black Beer Citation: The detailed branding was achieved using hi-stoving ink media in combination with a special screen application, giving strong shelf appeal and a ‘ready to fill’ advantage to the brand owner. |

Gold Medal Woolworths Hey Brew Caffe Latte Flavoured Milks Entrant: Fairfield Dairy Converter: Concept Plastics South Africa Brand Owner: Woolworths Citation: This trendy and attractive ‘coffee cup’ pack was designed to enhance consumer convenience. It features a non-spill fixed lid, allowing the coffee to be heated and consumed directly from the pack. |
