US: Coca-Cola adds first new permanent flavour in several years with Spiced

This innovative addition aims to transform the classic Coca-Cola experience by infusing it with raspberry and spiced flavours…. 

“Coca-Cola Spiced is not spicy but is Coke’s boldest tasting brand innovation yet, providing an uplifting taste experience unlike any other. Instead, it promises an extraordinary combination of familiar Coca-Cola taste with an added burst of raspberry and spiced notes, providing a unique and uplifting flavour experience,” says the company. 

The new offering is available in two varieties; Coca-Cola Spiced and Coca-Cola Spiced Zero Sugar.  

The packaging design for Coca-Cola Spiced and Coca-Cola Spiced Zero Sugar is in line with the overall visual identity of Coca-Cola Trademark and its Zero Sugar varieties. 

Both varieties feature the classic Coke Trademark red with a sleek swirl of raspberry-inspired colours, showcasing a bold script in white for full sugar and black for zero sugar. 

The new offerings are set to hit shelves on February 19, with a 12oz (350ml) serving of Coca-Cola Spiced said to contain 150 calories and 41g of sugar, comparable to the flagship Coca-Cola. 

Riding a prominent beverage trend

Coca-Cola attributes the launch of Coca-Cola Spiced to the evolving beverage trends that emphasize enticing and unique flavorus.  

According to a 2021 study by Kalsec, there is growing consumer interest in spiced flavours in non-alcoholic drinks, showing a 124 percent increase in willingness to try such flavours compared to two years prior. 

This move is part of Coca-Cola’s strategy to engage younger consumers and experiment with its signature Cola. In 2022, the company released Coca-Cola Creations, a series of eight limited-edition flavours in vibrant cans and bottles.  

As part of this trend, Coca-Cola has also just unveiled Happy Tears Zero Sugar aimed at celebrating acts of kindness, “celebrating the happy tears that flow during moments of “Real Magic” with its first drink sold exclusively on TikTok Shop”. 

It launched in the US and UK on Random Acts of Kindness Day (Feb 17) as the first Creations drop for 2024.

“The limited-edition offering combines a timeless Coke taste infused with a salty splash of minerals for taste and a sweet pinch of peach, drawing inspiration from the tears of joy brought on by small, everyday acts of kindness — such as sending a positive text to a friend, paying for a stranger’s coffee, leaving a compliment on a post or sharing a Coke with a loved one,” says the press release.
