SAAFoST’s 23rd Biennial International Congress and Expo

There are three months to go to the commencement of this year’s premier event of the South African food and beverage industry.

In case you have not yet heard about it, SAAFoST’s 23rd Biennial International Congress and Exhibition is being held at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre from 1-4 September 2019.

Hundreds of people from the broader food and beverage industry have already registered to attend and if you have not already done so then suggest that you register on line, using the congress website saafost2019.org.za, as soon as possible as there is a limit to the number of delegates that can be accommodated.

The Congress theme is “Food Science and Technology for the 21st Century” and the Scientific Programme is packed with top quality international and local speakers.

As an added bonus included in the plenary sessions on day one is the fascinating presentation by Michael Charton called “My Father’s Coat”. While it is not directly related to food it gives a wonderful background of the history and evolving demographics of South Africa.

The Congress starts off with a complementary cocktail party on Sunday evening 1 September and it will be held in the Exhibition Hall giving delegates and exhibitors a chance to interact before the main event commences on Monday.

The Student/ Young Professional’s function which promises to be a fun-filled evening will be held on Monday evening at the High Flyers pub and restaurant, which is immediately adjacent to Birchwood.

The DSM Gala Banquet will be held in the very attractive Serengeti room at the conference centre on Tuesday night. It can accommodate 400 guests so get your tickets early so that you will not be disappointed.

“Focusing on our wonderfully generous sponsors we reduced our budget for this year’s sponsorship income due to the tough economic climate but I am pleased to be able to report that we have exceeded the budget figure,” reports Congress chairman, David Watson.

At this stage, the event has three Platinum sponsors:

(1) Compusense, who has sponsored name badges, the Wi-Fi password, four tea & coffee sessions, and a plenary speaker.

(2) DSM Nutritional Products, who has sponsored the Gala Banquet.

(3) Sunspray Food Ingredients, who has sponsored attractive Congress satchels.

“We look forward to seeing you at, what will prove to be, a superb Congress 2019,” concludes Watson.
