Rooibos redefines beverage preservation

Afriplex launches innovative sulphite-free cider and beer using indigenous rooibos and honeybush extracts as natural preservatives.

Afriplex, long a pioneer in the unearthing and realising of SA’s botanical bounty, has launched an innovative beverage range featuring natural preservation.

In partnership with Earth’s Essence Liquors, Red Dawn (IP) Holdings and Audacia Wines, the Paarl-based company reports it has been integral to the launch of a new range of patent-processed, naturally-preserved cider and beer — that is now available in 14 Checkers Liquor stores across Cape Town.

These feature standardised Rooibos and Honeybush extracts, developed for their exceptional antioxidant content and natural preservative effect — offering a sulphite-free alternative aligned with modern wellness values.

Afriplex extraction processes retains bioactive potency, ensuring that the extracts deliver measurable botanical benefits. They are:

  • ✔ Rich in polyphenols and unique antioxidants
  • ✔ Standardised for consistency and functionality
  • ✔ Scientifically developed for natural preservation
  • ✔ Free from sulphur-based preservatives
  • ✔ Aligned with clean-label, health-conscious trends

This innovation is the result of over a decade of R&D, done in conjunction with its aforementioned partners, aimed at unlocking the natural potential of indigenous botanicals in wine, beer and cider.
