Makeover for Woodlands ESL milk

First Choice Fresh Extended Shelf Life (ESL) milk, manufactured by Woodlands Dairy, one of the largest manufacturers of UHT milk in South Africa, has launched new packaging this month.

A key aspect of the revamp are new closures that are partly made from bio-based material to complement Nampak Liquid’s packaging that’s sourced from responsibly managed forests.

Says Marisa Maccaferri, marketing manager for Woodlands Dairy and First Choice: “Although we’ve been using Nampak Liquid Packaging for some time now, we changed the look of the packaging to highlight our new eco-friendly milk carton closures.

“The closures are partly made from plastics derived from plant-based material, which is a renewable resource that can be sustainably planted and harvested.

“Add to this that our milk is farm fresh and filled with natural goodness sourced from predominantly pasture-fed cows, you can’t go wrong!

“We truly believe that the planet must be protected as best we can and our actions must always be focused on going green. These new closures will ultimately have a huge impact on the environment.”

According to Maccaferri, First Choice is the first dairy brand in South Africa to make this small change to its milk carton closures.

“Our cartons are made from more than 80% plant based raw materials and the whole pack is now 100% recyclable.

“We use the Pure-Lac Ultra Pasteurisation system to reduce the microbial count beyond normal pasteurisation methods without any chemical treatment, loss of nutrients or compromising on the great milk taste.  Nutrients in milk are sensitive to light, which is why the paperboard carton of our First Choice ESL milk is the ideal way to preserve the goodness of milk.”

The new packaging is striking, bright and fresh. “We hope to create more awareness of eco-friendly packaging as well as the importance of sustainability,” she notes.

“The rollout of the new packaging will begin in the Eastern Cape, with other provinces following later. Anyone spending their holidays in our part of the world this festive season, can already make a difference to the environment by purchasing our products. There must be a reason why our First Choice ESL is the preferred milk of choice by barista’s in our area!” Maccaferri concludes.”
