According to Matthew Barry, a beverages analyst with Euromonitor International specialising in global trends in non-alcoholic beverages, the category has been able to insulate itself against many trends that are having a negative effect on carbonates overall by taking advantage its potential as a cocktail mixer.
While ginger ale is only a minor sub-category of carbonates overall, its success shows that growth is still possible for full-sugar carbonates if brands can understand the changing needs of consumers.
