29 Sep 2017 Coca-Cola launches limited-edition coffee flavour
Coca-Cola has unveiled it’s most controversial flavour yet – it has mixed its imitable fizzy drink with pure coffee.
The new flavour, dubbed Coca-Cola Coffee Plus, has more caffeine than a ‘normal’ can of Coke, and less than a cappuccino.
It has 14mg of caffeine per 100ml, compared to the usual 9mg – and way less than the frothy coffee favourite’s 43mg.
Sadly for South African caffeine fans, the new flavour is is only available in Australia, where it’s being released to coincide with the start of its summer.
Last year they were given ginger-flavoured Coca-Cola.
Coca-Cola Australia spokesperson Lisa Winn said: “Australians have a love affair with coffee so we thought why not give them more of what they want – the great taste of Coca-Cola with a dash of real coffee from Brazil.
“We think it will be a great-tasting afternoon pick-me-up – like a delicious antidote to the 3pm slump.”
While Coca-Cola Plus Coffee was also recently launched in Japan, the Australian version differs in that it is sugar free.
It contains less caffeine than a regular latte or flat white; but slightly more than the classic Coca-Cola.
Australia was also the launch market for Coca-Cola No Sugar – the new version of Coca-Cola Zero – in June this year.
Other varieties of Coca-Cola in Australia include Coca-Cola Classic (sweetened with sugar), Coca-Cola with Stevia (50% less sugar than Coca-Cola classic, replacing Coca-Cola Life) and Diet Coca-Cola (sweetened with aspartame and acesulfame K).
