Craft Brew Symposium

First MicroBrew Symposium in Jo’burg in September

This is the first time that the Research and Teaching Institute for Brewing in Berlin (VLB Berlin) will be expanding its MicroBrew Symposium (MBSSA) to SA. The European counterpart is arranged directly preceding the annual trade fair, BrauBeviale, in Nuremberg.

The MBSSA 2016 meets the continuous trend towards individual and craft-made beers. It will address owners, brewers and brewmasters from African craft and pub breweries as well as their suppliers.

Besides an overview of the South African craft beer scene by Lucy Corne (local beer and travel writer, and author of “African Brew” and “Beer Safari”) the symposium will focus primarily on technical / technological aspects of professional craft beer production.

On this account, representatives of craft breweries such as Brauhaus am Damm (Olifants Nek) and Drayman’s Brewery (Pretoria) will share their experiences.

Addionally, general concepts for small-scale brewery plants, the rich variety of products available by variations to the raw materials, process parameters and yeasts, as well as the necessary quality control, will be presented and discussed. A sociable evening with craft beers and snacks will complete the symposium.

Subsequently, all participants will have the opportunity to visit food & drink technology Africa (September 14-15), the third successful offset of Messe München’s drinktec, the world’s leading trade fair for the beverage and liquid food industry.
