SA’s cannabis crisis – SAAFoST to host upcoming webinar

The South African cannabis industry has been up in arms ever since the Minister of Health’s publication on 7 March 2025 of the R5960 Regulation …..

The regulation relates to the prohibition of the sale, importation and manufacture of foodstuffs containing any part of the plant or component derived from the genus Cannabis, and CannabisSativa L, Hemp, Hemp seed oil or Hemp seed flour.

Whilst many people are surprised by this regulation, it has been the legal position for quite some time now, that cannabis may not be sold in or as a foodstuff.

In this SAAFoST-hosted webinar, The Prohibition against Cannabis & Hemp in Foodstuffs in South Africa – How the R5960 Regulations affect the current legal position, legal expert, Isabella Mazzone, Associate Attorney: Department of Food & Consumer Law at Hahn & Hahn Attorneys, will explain the position and how this regulation only clarifies an already existing ban to which importers, manufacturers, and retailers have been turning a blind eye.

The event is free for SAAFoST members, only R100 for non-members.
